Música Antigua de Albuquerque will present “My Fayre Lady,” a concert of love songs and instrumental music from medieval and Renaissance England.  The program will include some of the few surviving secular songs from the English Middle Ages—”Brid one brere” (Bird on a Briar), “Foweles in the frith” (Birds in the Wood), and the earliest known round, “Sumer is icumen in.”  Music from the Renaissance will feature love songs by Henry VIII and other composers at his royal court, lute ayres by John Dowland, canzonets by Thomas Morley, 16th-century English madrigals, and dances by John Playford with fanciful titles like “Jenny Pluck Pears,” “Petticoat Wag” and “Lady Day.”  The performers of Música Antigua are Hovey Corbin, Dennis Davies-Wilson, Ruth Helgeson, Curtis Storm, Colleen Sheinberg and Art Sheinberg.  The program will be performed with historic instruments, including recorders, shawm, lute, violas da gamba, sackbut, harpsichord and others.
