This is a concentrated workshop series specifically for improving musicality and technique on the baroque flute. We’ll look at short excerpts from a variety of music to learn how to play in a more stylish and effortless way. If you have a basic command of the instrument and can play movements of Hotteterre, Telemann, etc., this is for YOU!
One of the most important things I learned from Wilbert Hazelzet is the art of “not playing”(those were his literal words!). By that he meant to always reduce in all aspects of our technique, to achieve the maximum with the minimum, to express more by playing less. This is all the more important due to the transparency of baroque music as well as the delicacy of the baroque flute as an instrument.
In these 8 weeks, we’ll listen, examine, and experiment with what “less is more” truly means. Besides music, we’ll also focus on solidifying forked-fingering notes like F and G#, as they’ll also require “not playing”. Throughout the years after my studies, this has proven to be truly a transformational concept and I guarantee this will change your way of listening and sensitivity towards music!
As in all my boot camps, there’ll be built-in individual lessons with me so that I can monitor your personal progress. You’ll also learn and feel motivated in the cameraderie of others and we’ll all be cheering for each along the way! For this reason, live participation is limited to 4 players.
