Contrary to general modern flute technique, stopping the sound with the tongue and creating the so-called “articulation silence” is one of the hallmarks of baroque flute playing. This is especially useful and crucial in defining affect, clarity, and musical shapes in baroque music. When done correctly and expressively, this will surely take your interpretation to a whole other level.

Join me and fellow flutists as I demystify the topics surrounding this technique and baroque articulation in general. Both baroque and modern flutists are warmly welcomed! The articulation silence can be perfectly applied to modern flute playing, and you’ll see how this will truly widen your toolbox of expression, as well as increase your rhythmic and technical stability.

Registration through my Eventbrite site.

“Teddie Talks Traverso” is a series dedicated to topics around historical flute-playing. These are talks, workshops, and media curated by the flutist Teddie Hwang. www.teddiehwang.com
