Program: Motets & Madrigals of Palestrina & Gesualdo
Experience a captivating tapestry of litanies, madrigals, and Lamentations from two renowned Renaissance composers. Palestrina, one of the most acclaimed musicians of the sixteenth century, refined the musical style of his time with elegant and balanced compositions, adhering to traditional melodic and harmonic conventions. In stark contrast, Carlo Gesualdo’s extreme chromaticism and dissonant harmonies vividly illuminate the melancholy of his chosen texts.
