Hendrik Vanden Abeele is a pianist, singer, conductor, lecturer, author, and researcher. He has taught and continues to teach at several conservatories in Flanders and the Netherlands (Leuven, Antwerp, Rotterdam, The Hague) and was a staff member at the Orpheus Institute in Ghent from 2007 to 2009. From 2000 to 2005, he was a permanent baritone with the Flemish Radio Choir. Since 2007, he has been a regular lecturer in Early Music with the arts education organization Amarant. He has worked as a postdoctoral researcher and staff member at the Alamire Foundation (KU Leuven). Hendrik Vanden Abeele founded the vocal ensemble Psallentes in 2000. With this and other ensembles, he has released dozens of recordings and performed throughout Europe, North America, New Zealand, South Korea, China, and Japan. He is also the founder of the record label Le Bricoleur, distributed by harmonia mundi / PIAS.

Hendrik Vanden Abeele holds a Doctorate in the Arts from Leiden University. His doctoral research explored ways of establishing a contemporary artistic relationship with the performance practice of late-medieval plainchant. Together with Liesbet Vereertbrugghen and Nicole Van Opstal, he co-authored the book De stilte van de muziek voor Bach (“The Silence of Music Before Bach”), published by Borgerhoff & Lamberigts in 2020.
