Biography
Brady Lanier, a captivating virtuoso on the viola da gamba, brings historical authenticity to life. Brady brings expressive interpretations and technical finesse to the solo viola da gamba repertoire from the sixteenth through the eighteenth century, gracing audiences with enchanting performances. But what truly sets Brady apart is his ability to connect with modern listeners.
A native of Houston, Texas, Brady currently resides in Virginia, where he performs as a core member of The Governor’s Music, Colonial Williamsburg’s resident Baroque chamber ensemble; and with the Wren Masters, a Baroque quartet comprised of William & Mary faculty members. His musical journey has taken him nationwide, collaborating with esteemed ensembles like the Houston Bach Society, Istanpitta Medieval Ensemble, the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, and Musikanten Montana. Brady is a co-founder of Quaver Viol Consort, whose innovative approach to viol consort repertoire has garnered acclaim nationwide.
Currently pursuing a Doctorate in Music at Indiana University, he studied under Wendy Gillespie and Joanna Blendulff. Brady holds a BA from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and a MM from Indiana University.
Brady is also an avid educator. He teaches viol at William & Mary University, and is a frequent faculty member at summer workshops such as the Viola da Gamba Society of America’s annual “Conclave”.
His commitment to both historical performance practice and modern innovation makes Brady a distinctive addition to the Early Music America roster.
