Biography
Known for her strong leadership and compelling musicality, Carla Moore is one of America’s foremost Baroque violinists. Carla serves as the concertmaster of Portland Baroque Orchestra, is a long-standing member of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, and frequently serves as concertmaster and soloist with groups throughout the West Coast. Her collaborations include performances with Seattle Baroque Orchestra, Pacific Baroque Orchestra, Pacific MusicWorks and Musica Angelica. Carla co-founded Archetti Baroque Strings, a conductor-less Baroque string band which she directed for fifteen years. She has appeared at international music festivals in London, Utrecht, Regensburg, Bruges and Göttingen as well as Tanglewood, Ravinia, Caramoor and the Oregon and Carmel Bach Festivals in the United States. Carla’s extensive discography covers orchestral and chamber music, including music by Handel and Hellendaal with Archetti Baroque Strings, seven critically acclaimed CDs with Music’s Re-creation, and three acclaimed CDs with Voices of Music. Her performances with Voices of Music on YouTube have millions of views.
Carla delights in educating students in Baroque style. She taught at the University of California, Berkeley, for two decades and has instructed students and led masterclasses at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Northwestern University, the University of Puget Sound, the University of Utah and Utah State University.
Carla began her career in New York City where she performed and toured with Tafelmusik, the London Classical Players under Sir Roger Norrington, the Bach Ensemble with Joshua Rifkin, and the Handel and Haydn Society with Christopher Hogwood. A First Prize winner of the Erwin Bodky Competition for Music, Carla received her undergraduate training from the University of Southern California and earned a Master of Music with Distinction from Indiana University’s Early Music Institute where she studied with Stanley Ritchie.
Carla and her husband recently relocated to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where they are enjoying immersing themselves in the culture and beauty of their new home.
