Biography
Heather Miller Lardin is the principal double bassist of the Handel & Haydn Society in Boston. As a historical double bass specialist, she has appeared with early music festivals and ensembles including Tempesta di Mare, Boston Early Music Festival, Bach Akademie Charlotte, Staunton Music Festival, Tafelmusik, Bach Choir of Bethlehem, and Brandywine Baroque, among others. Along with flutist Steven Zohn, Lardin directs Night Music, a chamber ensemble dedicated to music of the Revolutionary and Romantic eras. From 2006-2013 she served as Artistic Director of the Ithaca, NY-based ensemble NYS Baroque. In addition, she was formerly a member of the Virginia Symphony.
Lardin serves on the faculty of Juilliard Historical Performance. She is the director of the Temple University Early Music Ensemble and teaches supplemental Baroque double bass at New England Conservatory. She regularly serves on the faculties of the Amherst Baroque Academy and the Viola da Gamba Society of America Conclave and has created a self-paced Baroque Double Bass course for discoverdoublebass.com. Recent masterclasses have included Peabody Conservatory, Yale University, James Madison University, and Oberlin Conservatory.
A recipient of the International Society of Bassists Special Recognition Awards in both Historical Performance and Scholarship, Lardin trained at the Curtis Institute of Music with Roger Scott; at Juilliard with Homer Mensch; and privately with Harold Robinson. She holds a DMA in Historical Performance Practice from Cornell University where she studied viola da gamba and violone with John Hsu.
