Biography

Shulamit Kleinerman performs on Renaissance violin and vielle and is the founding director of Seattle Historical Arts for Kids, for which she received EMA's 2015 Laurette Goldberg Award. SHAK students in the elementary, middle, and high school grades study and perform year-round in the historical performance practice fields of instrumental music and theater. Students in SHAK's Early Music Youth Academy present fine Renaissance consort music on viola da gamba, violin, harp, lute, and recorder. SHAK's annual theatrical endeavors have included a 2015 performance of an original youth adapation of Handel's Alcina in EMA's Young Performers' Festival at the Boston Early Music Festival. In June 2018, SHAK's Serse will be presented in the Berkeley Festival of Early Music. SHAK is fiscally sponsored by Shunpike; donations are tax-deductible.
