Biography

TAYLOR BROWNFIELD is a first-year master’s degree candidate in Orchestral
Conducting at Louisiana State University, studying with Professor Scott Terrell.
He obtained his bachelor’s degree in music performance with a focus in percussion
from LSU in 2021, studying under Dr. Brett Dietz. After graduating, he enlisted in
the United States Marine Corps Fleet Band, where he served on active duty as a
percussionist with the Marine Forces Reserve Band, stationed in New Orleans,
Louisiana, from 2022-2025. Brownfield has performed as a percussionist with the
Rapides and Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestras. He is currently the Assistant
Conductor of the New Orleans Civic Symphony and the Founder and Artistic
Director of the Le Nouveau Chamber Collective, a chamber ensemble based in the
New Orleans area.

Brownfield has been an advocate for historical music from a young age. He is a performer of 18th and 19th century American rudimental drumming, and promotes early American music. His current interests include historically informed performance practice ensembles and orchestras from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantique periods and historic orchestral percussion instruments.

Brownfield has participated in numerous orchestral conducting masterclasses with
Martin Åkerwall, Donald Schleicher, and other notable teachers. He has had the
pleasure of conducting the United States Marine Forces Reserve Band, Louisiana
Youth Orchestra, Camerata Belgrade Chamber Orchestra (Serbia), San Francisco
Philharmonic, New Orleans Civic Symphony, LSU Symphony and Concert
Orchestras, and the Rapides Symphony Orchestra.
