Lyra Baroque Orchestra Announces Captivating 2026–27 Concert Season Under the Leadership of Artistic Director Bojan Čičić
- PAUL, Minn. — The Lyra Baroque Orchestra, the region’s premier period instrument ensemble, has officially announced its 2026–27 season lineup. Entering its forty-second anniversary era of historically informed music-making, the orchestra continues its mission to inspire and enrich the community through exceptional performances of Baroque and classical masterworks on historic instruments. Guided by its new Artistic Director, Bojan Čičić, the upcoming season promises an extraordinary journey through the 17th and 18th centuries, blending rare historical discoveries with beloved masterworks.
The 2026–27 Mainstage series features five diverse and compelling programs performed across venues in Saint Paul, Minneapolis, and Rochester:
- Classic Constellation: Europe’s Other Mozarts (November 6–8, 2026): Opening the mainstage season, Lyra spotlights brilliant contemporaries of Mozart, featuring works by Thomas Linley, Chevalier de St. George, Mozart himself, and a powerful Symphony in C minor by Kraus.
- Nightwatchman and Royal Table (January 8–9, 2027): An exploration of the evocative, imaginative world of Heinrich Biber, highlighting courtly opulence and dazzling violin virtuosity.
- Storm, Sunlight and Shadows (March 5–6, 2027): A journey through the emotional landscape of quartets by Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, shifting from dramatic storms to quiet, reflective depths.
- Venezia Stravagantissima (April 30 – May 1, 2027): Step into early 17th-century Venice with pioneering works by Monteverdi, Castello, and Fontana that capture the daring innovations of the golden age.
- A Brilliant Lineage – The Bachs in Concert (June 11–12, 2027): Presented in partnership with the Twin Cities Early Music Festival, the season finale celebrates the dynamic musical heritage of the Bach family, featuring compositions by J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, W.F. Bach, and J.C. Bach.
In addition to its Mainstage concerts, Lyra Baroque Orchestra offers an engaging suite of salon-style lecture recitals, educational events, and community fundraisers hosted in The Baroque Room in Saint Paul. Highlights include introductory lectures on music history, low-string explorations of the viola da gamba and violone, and the Annual Terrace Concert fundraiser at the American Swedish Institute.
