BIPOC Artists and Early Music Seattle: Building Trust

A first step to just partnerships between BIPOC artists and white-led arts organizations is the building of trust. In this EPLC Mixer, Monica Rojas Stewart and Gus Denhard discuss their journey as artistic partners for multiple projects dating back to 2018. Through their work they identified and confronted some of the institutional racism and other related forms of oppression embedded in Early Music Seattle’s practices. Honest discussions, often held in Peacemaking Circle format, contributed to the building of trust and some institutional learning. Their work is ongoing.
