Mountainside Baroque 2022 “Festival of Lessons and Carols”

Mountainside Baroque’s 2022-2023 season, “Chapels and Courts,” will continue on Sunday, December 18, at 5pm, with its annual “Festival of Lessons and Carols.” As in previous years, the ecumenical event will take place at the historic Emmanuel Episcopal Parish at 16 Washington Street in Cumberland, Maryland.

The Scholars of St. Cecilia, Mountainside Baroque’s resident chamber choir, has rung in the Christmas season since 2013 with a FESTIVAL OF LESSONS AND CAROLS, a celebration that encompasses six centuries of Christmas music, including traditional carols, along with readings by local clergy and officials. Mountainside Co-Artistic Directors Ryan Mullaney and Lyle Nordstrom lead The Scholars.

This year, special additional music will be included: Marc- Antoine Charpentier’s  Nativitatem Domini Canticum, a charming depiction of the Christmas story, along with instrumental Nöels for Baroque flutes, harpsichord, theorbo and viola da gamba.

The event is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be received. For the latest information, visit www.mountainsidebaroque.org or call 301-338-2940. Tickets for the spring 2022-2023 season concerts are also available at the website box office.
