NAVRS Hosts the Flanders Duo for Medieval Gems 4/25

The North American Virtual Recorder Society (NAVRS) presents the Flanders Recorder Duo (FR2) for a Medieval Gems Playing Meeting on Saturday, April 25 at 1:30PM, ET. World-renowned musicians, Tom Beets and Joris Van Goethem, will lead the NAVRS monthly Playing Meeting in an exploration of the colorful sound world of the 14th and 15th centuries and a carefully curated selection of late medieval masterpieces. From the chant-inspired polyphony of O Virgo Splendens (Libre Vermell) to the English elegance of John Dunstable’s Quam Pulchra Es, and concluding with the festive, fanfare-like energy of Propinan de Melyor, this session promises contrast, depth, and musical joy.

Joris Van Goethem is an internationally renowned flautist, recorder player, teacher, arranger, and conductor of recorder orchestras. He is well known as an enthusiastic and skilled teacher and gives master classes and teaches early music courses in all corners of the world. Tom Beets has delighted audiences and pupils at venues around the world. Tom teaches in music schools and leads masterclasses and workshops across Europe, the UK and the USA. He is a director of the largest early-music and recorder course in Europe and Chairman of the Recorder Summer School. As a member of the Flanders Recorder Quartet, he was awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award of the American Recorder Society. Tom also plays viola da gamba.

The North American Virtual Recorder Society (NAVRS) is an online community of recorder players. Celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2026, NAVRS’s 300 members come from North America, Europe, and Asia. The annual membership fee is $20 a year and Playing Meetings are $15 per session.
