About

Ars Lyrica Houston

Ars Lyrica Houston specializes in music from the Baroque era, the “golden age” of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, as performed on period instruments with careful attention to historical style and context. Founded in Houston in 1998 by harpsichordist and conductor Matthew Dirst, this Grammy-nominated ensemble provides audiences with world-class performances of a wide range of dramatic, sacred, and chamber works.

Ars Lyrica Houston's 19th season, Sounding Legacies, offers spectacular music by beloved Baroque composers, including major works of Purcell, Rameau, Handel, Monteverdi, and Bach. Soloists include audience favorites alongside rising opera stars, accompanied by an outstanding core ensemble of period string, wind, and continuo players. Performances will take place in Zilkha Hall at the Hobby Center for Performing Arts, Rienzi (the MFAH house museum for European decorative arts), and St. Philip Presbyterian Church.
