Rezonance Baroque Ensemble: Encounter in Constantinople Online Release

For this online release of our October 22nd in-person concert, Rezonance once again brings you music from the complex estuary between European and Ottoman cultures in the Baroque period. Featuring special guests Nicolas Royer-Artuso (oud) and James Freeman (percussion) performing alongside the ensemble, this programme includes music by the Moldavian composer Dmitri Cantemir juxtaposed with music from central European composers Heinrich Biber, Johann Joseph Fux, Nicola Matteis, and improvisations and repertoire drawn from the Ottoman Empire’s culture and legacy. This program reflects the complex geopolitical and social realities of Europe in the Baroque period, and draw attention to Ottoman culture’s significant influence on what is often conceived of as Western European music.
