Guillemain: Violin Sonata in B minor, Op. 1 No. 3, IV Allegro assai

There are very few recordings of Guillemain’s music due to its “bizarre” nature, but that’s what drew me to his compositions in the first place! The sonatas and symphonies on this album have never been recorded before, and it was very exciting to show how Guillemain puts the typical solo sonata and trio sonata setups on display in a very special way. Pay extra attention to the continuo involvement in the solo sonatas: they’re basically competing with the violin the whole time!

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the U.S., some of my biggest projects of the season have been cancelled. Not only has the financial reality of the situation been hard to take, but also the sudden inability to share music with my wonderful colleagues and audiences. While I am grateful the arts community is able to stay in touch and share our talents through social media, I am dreaming of the day when we can all gather together and enjoy a live performance again. Stay safe everyone!
