Museum Concerts continues its 59th season as Rhode Island’s premier early music concert series on Sunday, November 16th with Providence Baroque: Bach’s Orchestra.
Providence Baroque explores the riches of Bach’s orchestral music. The double concerti were likely performed from 1729 to 1737 at Zimmerman’s Coffee House in Leipzig by university students in the Leipzig Collegium Musicum at free, twice-weekly concerts led by Bach.
Also featured in the program is a double concerto by Georg Philipp Telemann, Bach’s friend, occasional rival, and godfather to his second son. Led by Daniel S. Lee, Providence Baroque performs on period-styled instruments with Gaia Satermoe-Howard on oboe and recorder; Maximilian St. George on traverso; and Daniel Lee and David Rubin on violin.
“Daniel Lee conducted masterfully . . . bringing the evening to a total new level and expertise.”
