CHANT ALONG WITH MOUNTAINSIDE BAROQUE ON FEBRUARY 21
“ECHOES OF THE ORATORY CHANT-ALONG #3”
Mountainside Baroque’s Bishop Matthew Riegel will again offer the public a chance to learn and sing Gregorian chant. This free interactive workshop takes place Saturday, February 21 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cumberland, Maryland.
This year, Mountainside Baroque’s workshop will follow a different format that now includes an early session for beginners and a later one for experienced participants. Make it a full afternoon and do both with a break for refreshments in between.
The session for beginners introduces participants to the basics of chant, including reading square notes. If you’ve never chanted or read square notes (or music in general), this session is for you. It is scheduled for 2-3:30pm.
The more advanced segment offers an opportunity to explore chant in depth. This session runs 4-5pm.
Take advantage of the break to ask questions or get personal tips in a relaxed setting. You may also request a favorite chant in advance by emailing Bishop Riegel at riegel@wv-wmd.org.
Mountainside Baroque is an early music collective established in Cumberland in 2011 by co-directors Ryan Mullaney and Lyle Nordstrom. It is known for its excellent, dynamic performances, drawing on the finest early music specialists from across the country. These professionals return to Mountain Maryland for great music, fresh air, and the great vibe here, features that also attract audiences from around the mid-Atlantic region.
Chant-A-Long #3: Chant and More takes place Saturday, February 21 from 2pm to 5pm in the Parish Hall at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 15 N. Smallwood in Cumberland, Maryland. There is no formal charge for the workshop, but donations are always welcome.
