The lute boasts a large repertoire of graceful court dances and witty character pieces written from the late 17th to early 18th centuries. This is music written in a galant, or elegant, style: an intimate, simplified harmonic structure contrasts with elaborate and refined ornamentation.
Lutenist Brian Bartling has selected a program that highlights the grace and elegance so characteristic to the Baroque lute. Suites by the renowned Sylvius Weiss will be featured, along with a few of his lesser-known contemporaries such as Lesage de Richee and Wolff Jakob Lauffensteiner.
