Women and English Sociability ~ Sonatas for Keyboard with Violin Accompaniment
Patricia García-Gil ~ fortepiano
Cynthia Roberts ~ violin
Using an original 1814 Clementi piano, this bright B-flat Major program alternates violin-accompanied keyboard sonatas by English women composers with selections of Mozart’s English works shaped by the Italianate style of J.C. Bach. This genre centers performers as creative agents, inviting embellishment and improvisation while revealing a musical continuum where private and public, popular and learned, continually blur.
Patricia García-Gil and Cynthia Roberts debuted together in May 2024 and have since performed widely. Cynthia is one of America’s leading Baroque violinists, appearing as soloist, concertmaster, and recitalist across North America, Europe, and Asia. Patricia, Artist-in-Residence and Postdoctoral Associate at Cornell, is an internationally-acclaimed keyboardist recognized for visionary programming, scholarship, and compelling, acclaimed performances.
