Mountainside Baroque will present G. P. Telemann’s delightful one-act comic serenata, Don Quixote at Comacho’s Wedding, a ground-breaking production that will feature full-sized puppets along with professional soloists and Baroque chamber orchestra. The scene of the performance will be the Friedland Ballroom at the Allegany Museum in Cumberland, Maryland. An open dress rehearsal preview is scheduled for 7PM on Saturday, May 16, also in the Museum Ballroom.
Overseeing the performance are Mountainside Baroque Co-Director Dr. Lyle Nordstrom and NYC Artistic Director Alyssa Weathersby, along with Cumberland puppeteers Debbie Streicher and Kristen Evans. Featured in the principal vocal roles are Texas bass David Grogan and New York City baritone Harrison Hintzsche as well as several other soloists from the DC/Baltimore area, including mezzo Janna Critz, alto Charlotte Steward, tenor Ben Hawker, and baritone Corbin Phillips.
Juilliard Baroque violin faculty Cynthia Roberts will lead a 10-piece orchestra using reproductions of Baroque instruments, including Baroque strings, Baroque flutes, natural trumpets and Baroque bassoon as well as harpsichord and Baroque timpani.
In addition, there will be a free lead-in presentation on developing the production on Saturday, May 9, at 3pm at the Allegany County LaVale Library at 815 National Highway in LaVale, Maryland. Titled “Making Don Quixote,” the round table discussion will focus on the process and experiences of some of those connected with creating this innovative event.
