About

Lauda Musicam of Atlanta was formed in 2009 by members of the Emory Early Music Ensemble.  As an ensemble-in-residence at St. Bartholmew's Episcopal Church, members perform for some services and offer three or four concerts each year.  A recent collaboration between the St. Bartholomew's choir and Lauda Musicam was the Machaut Mass, though the appearance of Covid-19 put plans to perform Noyes Fludde on hold.

Lauda Musicam is a community ensemble and performs mostly Renaissance music.  Many members play multiple instruments, with recorders, viols, and sackbuts making up the majority of the group.  Professional guest artists, such as Adrin Akins (countertenor) and Doug Lindsey (cornetto), have appeared with the ensemble.  Another concert featured Renaissance brass and brought together cornetto, sackbut, and serpent players from throughout the region.

More recently, Lauda Musicam has hosted spring "PlayDates" in which amateur musicians can join us for a day of music making under the direction of a professional early music specialist.  As a 501(c)(3) organization, Lauda Musicam works to educate people throughout the Southeast about early music through performances, playing sessions, and instrument demonstrations in local schools and universities.

Lauda Musicam of Atlanta is directed by recorder player and teacher Jody Miller.
