BFX: Special Event: Harpsichordpalooza
June 12 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT
Many early music lovers are familiar with the travails of harpsichord transport and tuning. Arranging all of this for one harpsichord is difficult enough, not to mention two, three, or four harpsichords. This salon event features the two extant works in the Baroque repertoire for four harpsichords: Johann Sebastian Bach’s famous arrangement (in A minor) of Antonio Vivaldi’s concerto for four violins (RV 580), as well as Georg Christoph Wagenseil’s (1715–77) concerto for four harpsichords, scored without orchestra—the only known work based on original material. Renowned scholars Matthew Dirst and Annette Richards will provide musical commentary for this can’t-miss salon.
