Madison Bach Musicians presents Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610

May 18 @ 7:15 pm - 10:00 pm EDT

$10 – $40

There is something about Claudio Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 that simply takes your breath away—and nearly everyone who has had the good fortune to hear it in live performance, remembers where that was and when it happened. The Vespers is at once audacious and gentle, and it even seems to invent its own delightful form as it goes along. Vespers magically bridges the celestial sound world of Renaissance polyphony to the dramatic thrust of Baroque opera—which Monteverdi himself helped set in motion with his groundbreaking opera Orfeo of 1607, composed just three years before the Vespers.
Madison Bach Musicians is thrilled to offer two performances of Vespers of 1610 on May 18 & 19 in the magnificent acoustics of the First Congregational Church in Madison, WI. Internationally celebrated conductor Andrew Megill will lead a 24-member all-star ensemble. We can’t wait to see you there!
