Music of the Seasons

May 5 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm MDT

$10 – $20

Música Antigua de Albuquerque will present “Music of the Seasons,” a concert of music from the Middle Ages and Renaissance about the four seasons of the year. Sorry, no Vivaldi, but there are lots of other tunes to choose from. Songs about spring were by far the most popular in olden times, with its association with renewal and love, but composers also wrote about summer, fall and winter, with the latter often seen as a a time of isolation and longing. The program will include songs of the troubadours as well as music by William Byrd, Henry Purcell, Jacques Arcadelt, Michael Praetorius, Heinrich Isaac and others. The ensemble will perform with voices and period instruments, including the lute, vielle, rebec, recorder, gemshorn, scheitholt, hammered dulcimer, shawm, viola da gamba and harpsichord.
Concerts are in Santa Fe on Saturday, May 4, at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church, and in Albuquerque on Sunday, May 5, at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal. Both performances at 4:30. Tickets $20, $15 & $10. Call 505-842-9613 for reservations.
